Book the accessible cabin early. Very early.
Beyond has 25 wheelchair-accessible staterooms out of about 1,646 — roughly one and a half percent of the ship. They go long before the rest of the inventory, especially in winter. If you need one, book as far ahead as you can and confirm the category in writing.
Getting around the ship
- 12 elevators and four stairway clusters serve 15 passenger decks. That's a reasonable ratio, but at dinner and show times the midship lifts fill, and waiting is part of the day.
- Ten decks have cabins, so where yours sits decides how much of the ship you cross each day.
- Midship on decks 9 or 10 is the sweet spot most guides land on: quiet, surrounded by other cabins rather than venues, and close to lifts without being opposite them.
- Deck 12 sits below the pool deck. If chairs scraping at six in the morning would cost you a night's sleep, choose elsewhere.
Work through the Port Fit Check for the ports, then apply the same thinking onboard: it's the walk to the lift, repeated five times a day, that adds up.
The Magic Carpet, and why it matters
On Edge-class ships the Magic Carpet doubles as a tender platform, designed to make boarding a tender easier and to keep the tender off the hull. It's locked in place before anyone boards, and you can't ride it as a lift between decks. But at a tender port, the boarding arrangement here is better thought through than on most ships — ask your cruise line how it will be used on your sailing.
The Infinite Veranda, and what it changes
Most cabins here use Celebrity's Infinite Veranda: the balcony is brought inside the room, with a window that opens, rather than a separate balcony you step out onto. For a body with limits that's worth knowing both ways.
- No threshold to step over to reach the fresh air, and no door sill to catch a wheel or a toe.
- More usable floor space than a traditional balcony cabin of the same size.
- But it isn't a true open balcony, and some people miss that. Decide which you want before price decides for you.
- Some Infinite Veranda cabins on decks 6 to 14 sit in the path of the Magic Carpet, which can affect the view or privacy when it's parked at your level.
A ramp where you'd expect stairs
Eden, the three-deck observation lounge, has a ramp connecting decks 5 and 6 rather than only stairs. It's a small thing that makes one of the ship's best spaces reachable without finding a lift.
Worth asking before you sail
Check with Celebrity
- Ask which accessible cabins are left and where they sit — deck and position matter as much as the features inside.
- Ask how tendering works on your sailing, and whether the Magic Carpet is used for it at your ports.
- Ask about pool and whirlpool lifts, which exist on selected Celebrity ships but aren't self-service — Guest Services arranges them.
- Ask about assistive listening in the theater, which Celebrity provides on its ships.
- Submit the Guest Special Needs Form — Celebrity wants it about 30 days before sailing. The Accommodations Guide covers what to request.
